As omicron variant instances surge in Washington D.C., 4 Smithsonian museums will quickly shutter their doorways.
The Nationwide Museum of African Artwork, the Nationwide Postal Museum, the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum, and the Nationwide Museum of Asian Artwork (Freer Gallery of Artwork and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery) are closed beginning Wednesday by January 3, 2022.
“Like many other organizations, the Smithsonian has been managing the direct and indirect outcomes of the latest surge in covid infections caused by the omicron variant,” the group stated in a press release. “Over the last few days, the Smithsonian has seen an increase in positive covid cases and associated quarantine periods among our essential and operational staff.”
The non permanent closures will permit the Smithsonian to reallocate workers to different museums, which is able to stay open for the remainder of the week.
